About "500 Miles"

Last day I was searching for something else and this song came across. Its charm really attracted me. This is being categorized in country song or folk song which was so popular in the United States and Europe during 1960s. The song is all about a lonely traveller who is far from home, out of money and too ashamed to return. The song offers the lament by that traveller. The song is popularly known as “500 miles away from home” or “Railroaders’ Lament. The song is considered to be written by Hedy West as he is said to have learnt a version of the song as a child from her paternal grandmother. The first recording of the song that gained attention - meaning that virtually every other version below was derived from it - was by the fabulous Journeymen - Dick Weissman, Scott MacKenzie (of "San Francisco" fame) and soon-to-be Papa John Phillips.
The song hit the floor by American country music singer Bobby Bare in 1963.Country legend Bobby Bare had the charting single version of the song with a lyric that he completely re-wrote and copyrighted. It has also been recorded by Peter, Paul&Mary, The Hooters and many others. “500 miles” which you are hearing is being sung by “The Hooters”. Follow the lyrics.....it’s really nice......

"500 miles away from home"

500 Miles

If you missed the train I'm on
You will know that I am gone
You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles
A hundred miles, a hundred miles,
A hundred miles, a hundred miles
You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles

Not a shirt on my back Not a penny to my name
And the land that I once loved is not my own
Lord I'm one, Lord I'm two,
Lord I'm three, Lord I'm four
Lord I'm five hundred miles away from home

A hundred tanks along the square
One man stands and stops them there
Someday soon the tide'll turn and I'll be free
I'll be free, I'll be free I'll come home to my country

Someday soon the tide'll turn and I'll be free

If you missed the train I'm on
You will know that I am gone
You can hear the whistle blow a handred miles
Lord I'm one, Lord I'm two,
Lord I'm three, Lord I'm four
Lord I'm five hundred miles away from home...
I'll be free, I'll be free
I'll come home to my country
Load I'm five hundred miles away from home
You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles

CONFESSION

It was not my mistake, it rained...
I never hurt the sky to cry
It was not my mistake, sun hid...
I never cursed him for burning me
It was not my mistake, moon stared...
I never teased him with jasmine
It was not my mistake, stars laughed at...
I never told them my dreams
It was my mistake,I pride aloud...
"Sunny days are ever for me,
To make me laugh, love and learn
Moon and stars are ever for me
To show me the way in darkness"
Was it my mistake, that I mistook..
They never mistake on my takes,
